Signs You May Need Glasses

You may think your slightly blurry vision and occasional headaches are a sign that you are getting sick or need to lie down, but there may be a more serious problem associated with these symptoms, and you may need treatment for them.  Some of the signs that you need eyeglasses can often be things that can be attributed to another illness or environmental factor, but if you are prepared with the knowledge of when to visit an eye doctor, you can know what to look for.  Any of the following symptoms, or a combination of several of them, suggest that you should at least visit a doctor for an eye exam and start looking to buy glasses online.

Problems Focusing And Blurry Vision

If there is ever a time where your vision goes blurry, or you have a hard time focusing your eyes, it’s important to get right into a doctor.  Whether this is a sign of a problem with your vision or a more serious health problem, it’s essential that it be treated quickly.  Whenever you notice these symptoms, schedule an appointment with your eye doctor immediately.

Constant Headaches

If you find yourself suffering from headaches on a regular basis, this may be a sign that your eyes are straining too hard and that you have a problem with your vision.  The changes that occur when there are problems with your vision are gradual and may not be noticeable to you at first, and headaches are one of the first warning signs that your vision is changing and you may need to schedule an appointment with your eye doctor.  If you have regular headaches that seem to occur in the same way and around the same time, visit your doctor.

Frequent Squinting

This is probably the most obvious sign that you are in need of an eye exam.  If you are forced to squint in order to see things both near and far, it’s time for an eye exam.  You will squint your eyes in order to see things because it cuts out extraneous light that enters the eye, and improves the vision.

If the squinting is accompanied by a slow eye turn, otherwise known as a lazy eye, this is a definitive red flag that something must be done to fix the problem.  In children who squint and have a lazy eye, permanent vision loss can be the results of letting the problem go unchecked for too long.

Light Sensitivity

If your eyes are suddenly sensitive to light, you may be experiencing problems with your eyes that can be treated by your eye doctor.  Light sensitivity can signify several eye disorders, and may also be a sign of an eye infection.  If light sensitivity for your eyes is regularly a problem, it’s important to get to your eye doctor as quickly as possible.

Exam Every Two Years

If you aren’t experiencing any symptoms too strongly, but are concerned about the health and function of your eyes, follow the general rule and have an eye exam every two years.  This is especially true for those who are over the age of 40.  Once your vision is gone, it is almost impossible to repair it, and taking care of problems when they arise is the best way to ensure that you are not forced to wear glasses for the rest of your life.
